Artist Statment

My art is messy, loud, colorful, distracting, and is me. There are splashes, drops, drips, blobs of all different colors in my paintings. I wanted to be nothing but myself while making these pieces. Growing up with ADD/ADHD I grew up being a naturally loud person and often was told so. Over time, as I grew up I became less and less talkative and slowly grew more quiet and introverted. My paintings are me reclaiming my sense of self and being unapologetically myself once more.
The transparent quality of watercolor paint allows you to experience the joys of each and every layer of paint that goes into making a piece. When applied, end results are unpredictable. There is no way to know what the paint will look like when applied. Where the paint will go and where it will settle are all calculated unknowns. Once the paint dries the unknown starts all over again in another layer, but now with even more mystery then the first or last layer. How will this new color react with the one before it and the one before that? Each layer has its own statement. When I am painting and creating a piece, I want to be myself fully and truly. I want to be able to be loud, messy, colorful, and distracting without being apologetic. With each new layer a side of me is revealed on the paper, reclaiming my loud and outgoing personality for myself.
